When I say “quiet the inner critic”, I do not mean voices that literally speak to you in your head or from anywhere else. If hear literal voices, please call your local clinic and ask for mental health assistance. I mean those nagging little critics who act like assholes sometimes, you know, same level as a conscience would be. Like a really annoying Jiminy Cricket.
I have been abused by an ex-husband, parents (also neglected), and, in hindsight, bullied for years by my best friends and I have been diagnosed with crippling PTSD (among other things), but that’s not the point. The point is that I’m trying to do these things for myself and I want to empower others to do these things for themselves because I know how loud and destructive that inner critic can be. That critic is loud because we internalize others’ critical voices and actions.
